Locum Assistant Legal Cashier/Bookkeeper in Twickenham – maternity cover for 1 year – full-time office-based role – VAC-8851

A law firm in Twickenham are looking for a locum assistant legal cashier/bookkeeper to provide maternity cover for a period of 1 year starting from mid-February 2024.

Your role will be to assist the Senior Bookkeeper by:

  • Developing systems to account for financial transactions by establishing ledgers of accounts; defining bookkeeping policies and procedures.
  • Maintaining subsidiary accounts by verifying, allocating, and posting transactions.
  • Balancing subsidiary accounts by reconciling entries.
  • Maintaining general ledger by transferring subsidiary account summaries.
  • Balancing general ledger by preparing a trial balance; reconciling entries.
  • Maintaining historical records by filing documents.
  • Preparing financial reports by collecting, analysing, and summarising account information and trends.
  • Complying with legal requirements by studying requirements; enforcing adherence to requirements; filing reports; advising management on needed actions.
  • Contributing to team effort by working with the Senior Bookkeeper as needed.
  • Reporting to the firm’s partners/management as required and by attendance if required at partners’ and finance meetings.
  • Keeping up to date with and actions all SRA rules and requirements and the requirements of all other relevant bodies.
  • Keeping up to date with Solicitor’s Accounts Rules.
  • Demonstrating knowledge of the legal services provided by the firm.
  • Liaising with the firm’s Accountants and providing all relevant records and documents in a timely manner to enable those Accountants to prepare and finalise annual returns and accounts.
  • Liaising with the firm’s bankers as and when necessary.
  • Dealing with the firm’s suppliers to include making timely payments to creditors.
  • Utilising and remaining familiar with the firm’s IT systems and accounts software.
  • Recording staff sickness and holidays and staff absences from work.
  • Representing the firm in a suitable and competent manner when meeting with the firm’s staff, clients, suppliers, Accountants and any other external parties.
  • Assisting in taking care of orders and the purchase of other materials required by the firm.
  • Assisting in regulating and overseeing staff expenses.
  • Undertaking all tasks as reasonably required by the Senior Bookkeeper.
  • Undertaking all tasks as reasonably required by any Partner or fee earner.
  • Adhering to company policies and procedure.
  • Conducting research as needed by any partner or relevant fee earner.
  • Distributing information as required by management.
  • Updating any client information as it changes.
  • Assisting with the firm’s file auditing system.
  • Assisting with the firm’s archiving procedures.
  • Preserving confidentiality as to the firm.
  • Preserving confidentiality as to the firm’s clients.
  • Maintaining the workstation provided in a tidy and good condition.
  • Dressing in attire which is suitable and befitting the role.
  • Arranging suitable cover during periods of sickness and holiday.
  • Providing cover when the Senior Bookkeeper is absent.

This role is a full-time position with office hours from 9.30am to 5.30pm at the firm’s offices in Twickenham.
