The locum invoices you

Self-employed locums generally invoice the firm directly, usually weekly, in line with the agreed arrangement.

We invoice monthly

Our introduction fee is calculated as a percentage of the monies paid to the locum during the assignment.

Rates, checks and responsibility

Locum rates vary by practice area, location, urgency, seniority and whether the work is remote or office based. Our hourly rates guide is updated regularly. The hiring organisation should interview the locum, verify that the proposed working arrangement is suitable and carry out any matter-specific, regulatory, practising-certificate, insurance or reference checks it requires. We provide candidate information and facilitate introductions; the firm remains responsible for supervision, file allocation and its own regulatory obligations.

For urgent assignments we circulate details promptly and can often send interested CVs quickly, although availability depends on the practice area, location and dates.

Can the locum work remotely?

Yes, if the assignment and the firm’s systems allow it. Some locums work remotely or on a hybrid basis; others prefer office-based work.

Who sets the hourly rate?

The firm and locum agree the rate. Our published guide provides current market indications, but the final figure depends on the assignment.
